Centennial Park Place - Nature's Idea of Home
Steps Steps for the building process

You have already taken the biggest step of all – deciding to build your own home. Now where to start? Below is a detailed list of steps walking you through the process of building.

  1. Selecting Your Home. Your builder will have floor plans that you can use and customize to your needs, or you can select a plan from a plan book or use your own plans. Your builder will help identify your specific plan development needs whether it be an architect, or simply a draftsman.

  2. Pre-Construction Once you’ve chosen your plan, you will most likely need to sign a contract with your builder before construction on your home begins. You should review this carefully and be sure it includes all the features and options you’ve chosen in your new home. Your builder should apply for building permits needed to begin construction once the contract is signed, and confirm the location and position of the home on the property prior to digging.

  3. Watching Construction When you visit your home site, please be careful. Any construction site can be a dangerous place, especially for unsupervised children.

Along the way, you may have several questions about the homebuilding process. All questions or concerns you have should be addressed to the builder, not subcontractors. Subcontractors may be able to answer your questions, but ultimately any changes need to go through the builder before they are executed in the field.

  4. Construction Completion Once your house is substantially complete, you can ask your builder to schedule a walk-through of the home for the purpose of inspecting the home and noting any items that need to be addressed.
